PCLA welcomes new board members

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – Pioneer Community Living Association (PCLA) adds two new directors to its governing board heading in to 2014. They are committed to leading the housing and services organization into the future of mental health care services.

Barb Walsh has been a practicing registered psychiatric nurse for nearly 25 years. Her clinical experience includes practice involving children and adolescents, chronic pain management, emergency psychiatric services and community mental health. Her graduate education focused on educational leadership. She has taught in the department of psychiatric nursing at Douglas College for 12 years.

"Barb's experience in the health care field, as well as being at the forefront of the latest training make her a great addition to the PCLA Board of Directors. We really look forward to working with her,” says board president Rosanne Rothenberg.

Jessie Reid also brings a wealth of experience to PCLA. She owns and operates J. Reid Enterprises Ltd. providing independent consultation services in health care and health education as well as other business ventures. Reid worked in the acute care system for 25 years during which 10 of those years were spent as the vice-president of a community hospital.

Since 2001, her work has focused in the area of mental health and substance use.  Reid is currently employed by B.C. Mental Health and Substance Use Services as the executive director for project development and is on contract with Sentry Correctional Health Services as the discharge planning lead.

"We are so fortunate to have Jessie joining our team,” says Rothenberg. “Her wealth of knowledge and experience in the mental health care field will be invaluable as we refine our vision for client care and housing."

PCLA has been a pillar in the mental health services landscape in New Westminster and Burnaby for the past 30 years. Since opening its first program in 1982, PLCA has developed seven unique programs and serves 400 clients annually.

PCLA is a dynamic, progressive community-based non-profit society providing innovative services and housing options to persons with mild to complex symptoms of mental illness and addictions. The focus is on high quality, effective, integrated, client-directed and client-centered services and support.
